Legacy Community Health Announces New Associate Chief Medical Officer Dr. Charlene Flash
HOUSTON – Legacy Community Health, Houston’s largest non-profit community health system, today announced the appointment of Dr. Charlene Flash as Associate Chief Medical Officer. A nationally recognized expert in infectious disease, Flash joins Legacy from Baylor College of Medicine, where she was a full-time assistant professor of medicine.
“We are incredibly fortunate to have such a trailblazing doctor join the Legacy team,” said Dr. Ann Barnes, Legacy’s chief medical officer. “As a physician executive, Dr. Flash’s clinical and research experience in disease prevention will benefit patients at all 30 Legacy clinics in Southeast Texas. Her deep expertise in this field is unmatched.”
Flash has published numerous research articles, served on review panels for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and is a highly sought after national speaker for her work on infectious disease and health disparities. At Harris Health System, she provided primary care while maintaining one of the highest patient-satisfaction ratings and quality markers in the clinic.
Flash is a leader in implementation of HIV prevention measures among marginalized communities. She developed and led Harris Health’s HIV Prevention Program and is a national spokesperson for Kaiser Family Foundation’s Greater Than AIDS initiative.
“Community health has always been important to me,” said Dr. Flash, who began her new position at Legacy on March 23. “I’m excited to join Legacy, known for its longstanding commitment to providing quality care and resources to those who are underserved.”
Flash graduated from Yale University and obtained her medical degree and master’s in public health from Rutgers University. She will continue to serve at Baylor College of Medicine as volunteer faculty.
