Dr. Erica Giwa is an OB/GYN physician at Legacy Santa Clara (LSC), where she has been practicing for three years and where she has served as site medical director since October 2022. As site medical director, she supported and managed the administration of clinical practice for clinicians across all service lines at LSC, in close collaboration with operational and nursing leadership. In all her endeavors at Legacy, she leads with expertise, enthusiasm and a wholehearted commitment to patients and team members alike.
Prior to joining Legacy, Dr. Giwa held the position of assistant professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Baylor College of Medicine. While at Baylor, Dr. Giwa also served as associate medical director and then medical director of obstetrics and gynecology for The Center for Children and Women in Houston. Dr. Giwa actively serves the community through The Center for Children and Women’s partnerships with the Houston Food Bank’s Food Prescription program and the University of Houston’s Healthy Start program. She received the Woman of Excellence Award in 2019 from Baylor College of Medicine and has devoted much time as an advocate for issues surrounding maternal health.
In her new role at Legacy, Dr. Giwa defines, promotes, and reviews quality practices for her department and the sites in which clinicians work. She also serves as a community representative in the field of obstetrics and gynecology and develops processes for ensuring continuity across patient transitions of care.
Dr. Giwa has a bachelor’s degree in Biology from the University of Houston and received her medical degree from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas. She completed her residency at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Lyndon B. Johnson Hospital.
She and her husband met in high school and married nearly 21 years later. They have a 18-year-old daughter and a 8-year-old son. Dr. Giwa enjoys spending time with family, interior decorating/organization, traveling and musical theater.
