Dr. Maria Dolores Diaz brings to Legacy more than 25 years of experience as a board-certified ophthalmologist, most recently with Houston Eye Associates for 12 years.

Dr. Diaz graduated from the University of Houston with a bachelor’s degree in Biochemical and Biophysical Sciences and then continued her education at the University of Texas Medical School in Houston, where she earned her Medical Degree. She completed her internship in Internal Medicine at the University of Texas Medical School at San Antonio and Affiliated Hospitals and spent two years working in in-patient care and clinical research. Following her internship, she completed her residency at the University of Texas Medical School-Houston and Hermann Eye Center.

She is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, has contributed to numerous research studies and has co-authored several medical bulletins. Dr. Diaz is an active member of the medical community, currently serving as Interim Medical Director for the Medical Advisory Board and as a member of the Credentialing Committee with East Houston Regional Medical Center as well as the Medical Governing Board with the East Houston Surgery Center.

In her role as Legacy’s Medical Director of Vision, Dr. Diaz defines, promotes and reviews quality practices for her department and the sites in which clinicians work. She also serves as a community representative and develops processes for ensuring continuity across patient transitions of care.

During her spare time, Dr. Diaz enjoys skiing, hiking and traveling, and she continues to mark off one more thing on her list of “things to do in a lifetime.” She also enjoys spending time with family and spoiling her goddaughter, Sasha, who thinks “Tia Loly ROCKS!”
