Dr. Scott Sawyer is the Medical Director of the Frost Vision Clinic at Legacy. Dr. Sawyer earned his undergraduate degree at Baylor University, before his medical training and residency at University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences.

Dr. Sawyer began his career in private practice. During the HIV/AIDS epidemic of the 1990’s, he was driven to action. At such a dark time when Dr. Sawyer was losing friends and loved ones to the outbreak, he was inspired to make a difference. Dr. Sawyer specialized in treating CMV retinitis, the leading cause of blindness almost exclusively among patients living with HIV. Dr. Sawyer’s efforts in this field helped him to establish his philosophy of practice: Treat everyone, offer acceptance, offer comfort, and most importantly, offer first-class care regardless of ability to pay.

Dr. Sawyer started the Frost Vision Clinic in 1994, working once a week with Legacy to provide care for those without insurance. In 2007, he joined Legacy full time as the Medical Director of Vision Services. He has helped thousands of patients between private practice and his time with Legacy, and is frequently honored with OutSmart Magazine’s annual Gayest and Greatest award for Best Eye Doctor
