History was made this weekend in Texas – the good kind.
We became the first state to organize a coalition of people living with HIV. Officially formed on Saturday at Legacy Community Health with folks from Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, and Beaumont, Texans Living with HIV will be a collective voice in policy and decision-making on issues that impact the HIV community. The group also will make sure that those newly-diagnosed with HIV are provided the opportunity to connect with the networks that can help them navigate the stigma, isolation, fear, loneliness, complicated treatment decision making and healthcare access issues.
A steering committee will work over the next several months to create a governing structure, mission, priority issues and membership. Many thanks go out to the Sero Project and Southern AIDS Coalition for supporting this historical achievement on behalf of all Texans living with HIV.
