The LA Times published an article “Zika’s coming, and there’s not enough money for another health emergency” yesterday highlighting the growing concern around Zika. The piece looks at where the preparedness response toward the virus seems to stand in Houston.
From the Times:
“‘It feels like we are not getting ahead of this,’ said [Katy] Caldwell, [CEO of Legacy], whose clinics along the Gulf Coast serve about 100,000 patients, including many immigrants from Latin America. “We as a community are not doing the preventive things that need to happen.”
Last month, Legacy reported its first pregnant patient testing positive for Zika.
