Dear Elaine,
We wanted to put HIV and its relevance on your radar ahead of Vice Presidential debate on Tuesday, October 4. It is something my organization in Houston cares a lot about at the local and national levels.
You probably know Gov. Mike Pence thankfully reversed his position on syringe exchange, in light of HIV spreading with “terrifying speed” in Indiana. (See NYT article)
This begs the larger question of what his and Donald Trump’s plans are nationally for ending HIV, which remains as much an epidemic as it did when George W. Bush tackled the issue in the 2000s. The Trump campaign has not made any proposals public for ending the epidemic; Clinton has.
Thanks for considering raising this important issue of public health. Please, #AskAboutHIV
Sincerely,
Legacy Community Health
