Women face different health concerns as they go through the various stages of their lives. Legacy Community Health offers a comprehensive range of OB/GYN services to help women of any age with many of these issues. Legacy has added two new procedures to expand its services. The Loop Electrosurgical Excision Procedure (LEEP) and pelvic ultrasounds are now available at select Legacy locations.
“We decided to expand our services because we saw a great need for them among our patients,” said Dr. Vian Nguyen, Legacy’s Chief Medical Officer. “In the past we would refer patients out to other agencies to perform LEEPs and pelvic ultrasounds. This added another layer to addressing a woman’s health care needs, and a layer in which they often encountered long wait times.”
LEEP is both a diagnostic and treatment tool used to detect and treat any abnormalities in the cervix. Patients, who have undergone a cervical cancer test known as a colposcopy, are eligible for the LEEP. The procedure uses a fine wire loop with a low-voltage electrical current to remove cervical tissue. Appointments are available one Monday every month at Legacy’s Montrose clinic at 1415 California, Houston, Texas.
A Pelvic ultrasound is typically ordered to locate the cause for pelvic pain or irregular or abnormal bleeding. This noninvasive diagnostic exam can also be used to evaluate a mass in the pelvic area, like a fibroid or ovarian cyst. The pelvic ultrasound is available one Saturday every month at Legacy’s Southwest Clinic, located at 6441 High Star Drive, Houston, Texas.
“Our patients have been excited with the expanded access to these procedures,” said Nguyen. “They are glad not to have be referred out and these additions make it easier for them to get the care they need.”
